Post: Salary Range Mechanical Engineer / Patent Attorney

Posted by Colette Kenney, cmk@telusplanet.net, on 8/09/01

I am a mechanical engineer with 9 years of experience. I
am contemplating returning to Law School. I have heard
that an engineer with a patent law degree can make lots of
money, but I am wondering how much is lots? I want to be
sure that the cost of lost wages for 3 years while going to
school and the expense of law school is going to be worth
    it.

I have also heard that patent attorneys only have to work
no more than six months out of the year because they make
so much in the first six months, they can afford to
vacation the rest of the year.

Is this all just a fairy tale? Or is there some truth to
    it?
