Post: A question about credit

A friend of mine recently had a name change and on his old
name he has a car that is payed off. On his legal new name
he does not have any credit. If he calls the recently paid
off cars old finiance company and asks them to report it to
his old name. Will that go on his new credit without
merging both files? He is having a real hard time getting
credit and this would help greatly.
