Post: Emancipated Laws

Posted by Shelby Ridgley, Ridgleyprincess@aol.com, on 11/25/02

I have a child who had been living in my home for almost a
yr, her mother doesn't seem to care as to her whereabouts,
and I located the father who hasn't seen her in almost 10
yrs, he has legal custody of her, but they don't "know"
each other at all. He is terminally ill with cancer. For
several yrs she was put here and there with no stable home
life which I have been more than happy to provide. The
father wants to force her to go back with him to Ohio, and
she doesn't want to go. This is a last resort, but can she
get emancipated and still live in my home? My husband and
I have been supporting her 100% with no assistance from the
state and we don't want it, we want her to be happy and I
think this is what it might take to make her happy. Please
tell me what she/I can do under florida law to make it
happen. The age and schooling requirments. And anything
else that will help her. Thank you
